used (the oboe is a descendant of a sham). In the 16th century Jean Hotteterre invented the oboe in France. At this time the oboe had three keys.
Between the 16th century and the classical period the oboe was narrowed and there were more keys added.

In the 14th century the crumhorn was invented and it is very close to what we now call a recorder.
later in the 16th century Michel Danican Philidor modified the oboe and it became louder.
In the classical period there were more keys added and it was narrowed. In the late 19th century there was a significant change to the oboe and this is the modern day oboe.
