Ray Still:
Ray was the first oboist in the Chicago symphony and was in it for 40 years and he taught many generations of oboe players . He recorded much of his solo repertoire and is known for being the best of the best. Ray died on the day of his birthday and he was turning 94. His family mourned his death. Ray's son-in-law said he had been decreasing in health since August. Ray was born in 1920 and at the age of 14 he started playing the clarinet seriously. He was inspired at the Los Angeles Philharmonic by the oboist Henri de Busser . Ray was enrolled into a New York school "The Julliard school of music" in 1946. He had a wife and two children and only made $80 a month. Ray was first oboe in Juilliard orchestra and in 1947-1953 he played in the Buffalo Philharmonic. he died surrounded with family march 12,2014.

John Mack:
John Mack was born in 1927 in summerville. John started to learn the oboe when he was in grade 6. John was an oboist in the Cleveland Orchestra From 1965 to 2001. He made special reeds out of bamboo and this process took a very long time and was very hard and fragile. The bamboo reed added a richer sound to the oboe. John died when he was 78 of brain cancer. He was very active until weeks before when he collapsed.
